  Durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial um pombo correio chamado Cher Ami salvou a vida de 600 soldados. Na sua última missão, Cher Ami conseguiu entregar a mensagem apesar de ter sido atingido com um tiro no peito, estar cego de um olho, coberto de sangue e com uma das patas praticamente arrancadas. (Cher Ami é o francês para "Querido Amigo")
